What is a N trap?
N trap or floor trap is a type of device that receives wastewater from kitchen floors, showers, bathtubs and bathrooms and passes it on to the drainage pipelines. Its primary functions are the drainage of wastewater and preventing foul gases from entering the living areas through the drains. These are typically made of UPVC or cast iron and have a detachable top grate for cleaning purposes.
N trap: Features
A quality N trap should come with the following features:
- N trap is typically lightweight, easy to install and hassle-free to maintain.
- The surface of the N trap has to be smooth and without any grooves, ensuring quick and steady water drainage.
- It needs to have a water seal of at least 10 mm for best results.
- It is made of sturdy UPVC or cast iron that can last for years.
- Usually, it has a removable PVC or steel jali on the top that collects any unwanted material that might clog the drains.
- The drainage should be so seamless that there is no requirement for manual drainage.
N trap: Benefits
Regardless of how long the water has been running in your bathroom or kitchen, a N trap will make sure that both the wastewater and odours stay out. It keeps collecting the water and garbage from the common fixtures at home, such as washing machines, showers, sinks and bathtubs. The water seal remains efficient under all kinds of flow and does not allow water to accumulate on the floor.
After the sink is drained, the curved bottom of a N trap retains a small amount of water. This water is the barrier that stops the sewage gases from entering the house and contaminating the living space. Whether it is installed indoors or out, a floor drain securely and effectively channels wastewater away from the surface and into the nearest storm drain or sewage system.
